THE CHARITY MILE : If ever a statement was needed...

The entries for the R600,000 Charity Mile, on the same card as the Emperors Palace Ready to Run Cup, were released yesterday. They represent pretty much the best milers in the land, a few Cape horses excepted.

If you’re a Ready To Run “watcher” there’s one stark reality. No fewer than nine of the 33 entries are from Summerhill, (that’s just short of 30%), and every one of them (just in case there’s any doubt, that’s 100%) are graduates of the farm’s Ready To Run programme.

As emphatic a statement as you’ll find on the strength in depth of Summerhill’s Ready To Run commitment, supported this year by the biggest breeder sponsorship of a horserace at almost R700,000 (for November 1’s Big Cup).

For the record, the Summerhill Ready to Run graduates include Outcome, Catmandu, Dynamite Mike, El Padrino, Fork Lightening, Galant Gagnant, Tap Tap, Thandolwami and The Big Ask. If they weren’t already winging their way to Dubai, no doubt the likes of Imbongi, Art of War and Umngazi would’ve been among them.

Want a slice of the 2010 renewal of the Charity Mile? You get your shot on 2nd November at the TBA sales complex.
