MTHOKOZISI SITHOLE'S 2011 PRE-GALLOPS TIP

Ready To Run Sale - Lot 184 Noble Star

LOT 184 NOBLE STAR
Kahal (GB) - Arabian Magic

mthokozisi sitholeMthokozisi SitholeMany a top graduate of the Ready To Run was “tipped” by the men closest to them. The jockeys and the grooms. The nearest thing to a sure thing.

Mthokozisi Sithole, known as “Small Boy” on the farm, has a great personality and is the practical joker in the Pre-Training division. He has brought on horses for previous Ready To Run sale’s such as: Mannequin, Paris To Peking, Mzwilili and Smangaliso.

Mthokozisi’s tip :

Lot 184 : Noble Star - by Kahal out of an Al Mufti mare. He is a first foal from a well performed South African family. He is an athletic type with a lovely action. Noble Star has a good top line and carries himself well in work.

SHEIKH MOHAMMED TOPS THE TREE

“The man affectionately known as
Sheikh Khalifa”

A glance at the family tree of Dubai’s ruling dynasty, reveals that Emirate’s cultural phenomenon when it comes to succession. Unlike many European countries, the principle of primogeniture does not appear to apply, resting rather on the basis of family consensus.

There are two Sheikh Mohammeds in Dubai, one the present ruler, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and the other his more senior (in years) first cousin, Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifah Al Maktoum. However, when it comes to results on the racecourse, pound-for-pound, the last few seasons at Dubai’s Carnival belonged, without doubt to the man affectionately known as “Sheikh Khalifah.”

At Gold Circle’s KwaZulu Natal Racing Awards on Friday evening, His Highness’ dominance of local racing was again apparent, when he was proclaimed Owner of The Year on the back of the championship titles of Bold Silvano (two) and Ancestral Fore.

Sheikh Khalifah’s success is not confined to his racing activities alone, though. Last season, he had two juveniles which excelled locally before making names for themselves as winners respectively, of the UAE Derby and UAE Oaks in Musir and Raihana. In his breeding operations at Summerhill, he has also struck gold in just a few seasons with the Highveld Racehorse of the Year. Pierre Jourdan (South Africa’s biggest earner of last season), Smangaliso (like Pierre Jourdan, a Graded Stakes winner of the Emperors Palace Ready To Run Cup,) and Dynamite Mike, vanquisher in the KZN Guineas of the international Group One hero, Jay Peg.

The Al Adiyaat team (the nom de plume of his racing stable) was back in action at Clairwood Sunday, when the Sheikh’s home-bred Inkanyezi strode away in a sparkling debut. Speaking of Mike de Kock, (Trainer of the Year, unsurprisingly) he has thus far had four runners from his 2009 Emperors Palace Ready To Run sale pickings, three of them (Igugu, Chekeche and Inkanyezi) winning at the first time of asking, while Saturday’s dominant 5,25 length winner, Checcetti, was twice second before greeting the judge with a 7,5 length romp on her first Highveld start. Her last two racecourse visits have yielded a combined victory margin of close to 13 lengths, and she could be special.

EMPERORS PALACE READY TO RUN CUP
6 November 2010

Just a fortnight ago, the news broke of an intended increase in the stake for the Emperors Palace Ready To Run Cup to R2 million. Of course, that innovation becomes a reality for graduates of this year’s sale, while last year’s will be running for the advertised R1,5 million on Saturday 6thNovember.

The Ready To Run’s reputation among sales countrywide has not only been hard-earned, it has been sustained over many years. In a relatively short space, its associated race has grown from a half a million Rand event to R2 million, and now we have the news the stakeholders have introduced special trials in the lead up to this year’s event. History tell us that a strong preponderance of potential candidates only start their racing careers at this time of year, and with the heavy over-subscription of maiden events in all our big centres, there’s no guarantee of a run for a horse trying to make the cut.

As a result, both Phumelela and Gold Circle have allowed for dedicated trials with added stakes in each of the three major centres, Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, where graduates of the sale are guaranteed a run without the risk of elimination. While this doesn’t preclude non-candidates from participating, those who are subscribed for the race with an opportunity to qualify, will get a run.

The details of the races are as follows :

Gauteng
Thursday 7 October 2010 R100,000
Vaal Turf Outside Track
1200m
Tuesday 19 October 2010 R100,000
Turffontein Standside Night Meeting
1400m
KwaZulu Natal
Sunday 3 October 2010 R80,000
Clairwood Racecourse
1450m
Sunday 17 October 2010 R80,000
Clairwood Racecourse
1200m
Western Cape
Wednesday 6 October 2010 R78,000
Durbanville Racecourse
1400m

Speaking from Summerhill, manager in charge of the Ready To Run string, Tarryn Liebenberg commented “It’s one thing incentivising investors with a big prize, it’s another affording them the opportunity to qualify. While the odds of competing for such a prize from just 150 candidates makes this the best sales race in the world, clearing the way for the best horses is just as important. This new innovation makes this possible, and provides our customers with the assurance that we’re batting for them all the way to the finish line”.

One horse who certainly put her hand up for a place in the line-up was Saturday’s 7,5 length winner, Checcetti, who couldn’t have been more impressive in beating a couple of competitive runners the first time Mike de Kock fitted the blinkers. Fillies already have a more than impressive record in the race, with a victory from the subsequent Group winner, Smangaliso, and a runner-up effort in last year’s event from the Gauteng Guineas heroine, Fisani.
