J&B MET RECORD FOR THE AGES
The defeat of Pocket Power in Saturday’s J&B Met was received with derision in some quarters, but few realised that in that instant, whilst their champion had been vanquished, between Mike Bass and owner Marsh Shirtliff, they had notched up what was a record for the ages. While Pocket Power hadn’t emulated his Queens Plate feat of four consecutive victories, in the Met, these two giants of the game just happened to have Pocket Power’s winning full sister, River Jetez, claim the laurels, as well as picking up the cheques for third and fourth in the event.
How long will it be before another combination achieves the same milestone? It’s unlikely it’s ever been done more than twice in a row, and this might just be a mark we’ll never see equalled, let alone bettered.
