CAPE ROYAL IN FULL FLIGHT

IN FULL FLIGHT HANDICAP (Listed)
Greyville, Turf, 1000m
26 April 2013

Confirming his standing as one of the top 3-year-old sprinting colts in South Africa, Dean Kannemeyer’s Cape Royal registered an easy win in Friday’s Listed In Full Flight Handicap run over 1000m at Greyville under lights.

After an impressive win in the recent unique Easter 600m ‘dash’, Cape Royal appears to have his Champions Season fitness and professional commitments well on track.

In the process of registering his first stakes win here, Cape Royal hardly raised a sweat and never appeared pressured in a fair field of speedsters. He took command at the top of the short straight and strode clear to win as he liked from a gallant pacemaker Cap Alright, who was outsprinted in the final 200m.

The pacy Cap Alright jumped smartly from The West Is Wide, with Cape Royal on his outside as they jostled for early position. Forced wide as a result of his early pace from the 7 draw, a confident Karl Neisius, had no hesitation in taking his mount to challenge early and he let Cap Alright do the donkey work down the rail, before drawing clear to win by 2,25 lengths in a time o 59,02 secs. Cap Alright held on doggedly for second in his KZN debut, while the goodlooking Tevez rattled through late for third.

Owned by Lady Christine Laidlaw, the Cheveley Stud-bred Cape Royal, a R1,5 million graduate from the Summerhill Stud draft of the 2011 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale, is by Royal Academy out of the UK bred Medicean mare, Dubai’s Fairy. He has recorded 6 wins and 2 places from 10 starts with stakes earnings of R323,905.

Be with Cape Royal next time!

EMPERORS PALACE READY TO RUN SALE
TBA Sales Complex, Germiston
2nd and 4th November 2012

There’s been much written in the past few weeks about getting the odds in your favour when it comes to the Ready To Run. Unlike conventional sales, this concept enables you to judge your fancy by its gallop, and since this game is about running, not walking, that has to give you a meaningful leg up. Besides, we have the judges’ panel, the jockeys, stud managers and grooms selections, which makes the Emperors Palace Ready To Run different to any other sale anywhere. And then we have history. In recent seasons, Summerhill has graduated no fewer than 21 millionaires, 8 multi-millionaires, and the winners of four of the first five renewals of the Ready To Run Cup. We were second in the other one.

If you glance at the merit log for this year’s running of the Cup, you’ll find that 11 of the 16 pole positions are occupied by Summerhill graduates, and bearing in mind that the number one rated colt, Cape Royal, and his stablemate Noble Star have not been entered by Dean Kannemeyer, it might’ve been 13 of the top 16.

Then look at those on the cusp of qualifying; 11 of the next 14 in the ratings have also known the taste of these historic pastures.

While some are already toasting champagne, there are more than a few connections on both sides of the invitation line chewing their nails. Geoff Woodruff and Roy Magner are sitting on the brink of the relegation zone with Ilha da Rock and Cookie Monster, while Woodruff and Lucky Houdalakis are looking for a play-off with Killua Castle and Kailani.

It’s anybody’s call as we go to the line, and there’s still time for those outside the immediate vicinity of the log, to step up this weekend with a convincing performance. That’s the beauty of the R2.5million Cup: it has a buzz like no other race in the country, because nothing is a fait accompli until the selection panel hands down their verdict on Tuesday. Either way, if you’re at the TBA Sales Complex next Friday and Sunday, and you’re there with intent, remember to give yourself the inside track. At least in the sales ring, you draw as you choose to draw, not how someone else draws you.

THE READY TO RUN : A PROLIFIC SOURCE OF WINNERS

Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale

EMPERORS PALACE READY TO RUN SALE
4 November 2012

While the graduates of the 2011 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale are still in the fledgling stages of their respective careers, there have been numerous smart looking winners to have emerged from the latest renewal of this increasingly important sale.

Impressive winners to have emerged from last year’s sale include the debut winners Cape Royal, Rock Of Arts, Extra Zing and Lonsome Dove, while the R500,000 filly, Emaliyami, scored a facile win at Scottsville recently, blitzing her field to win by over five lengths!

Other flag bearers to have emerged from the 2011 Ready To Run Sale include the classy performer, Indaba My Children. A multiple winner, Indaba My Children ran second in the G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes, where he beat G1 winner Potent Power.

Classy filly, Dylan’s Promise, won two in a row, and beat some top-class fillies when she landed the Listed Devon Air Stakes in the style of a filly going places.

Trainer, Louis Goosen, holds his Ready To Run graduate, Negev, in high regard, and the Stronghold filly looked impressive when she won, second time out, by nearly four lengths! Both Ready To Run graduates Ilha Da Rock and Sweet Destiny were good enough at two to contest the G2 SA Fillies Nursery.

The cheapie, Dalalaat, has proved a good buy for trainer Stephen Moffat. She cost just R25,000 - and to date, has earned in excess of R160,000.

With numerous well bred youngsters yet to race or lightly tried, more high-class performers are sure to emerge from the 2011 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale as this sale has an exceptional record of producing world-class runners. Past graduates include champions Igugu and Pierre Jourdan, as well as world-class miler, Imbongi.

This year’s sale will take place at the TBA Sales Complex, in Germiston, on Friday, 2nd November and Sunday, 4th November. It is not to be missed!

A HISTORY OF PRODUCING LEGENDARY RACEHORSES

Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale

EMPERORS PALACE READY TO RUN SALE
4 November 2012

There have been many high-class horses to have come off the Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sales who continue to prove the unprecedented success of this sale, and it’s ability to unearth true racehorses. One of the most remarkable triumphs for the Ready To Run Sale occurred in the Vodacom Durban July 2011, where graduates Igugu and Pierre Jourdan ran 1-2 in South Africa’s most famous race. Igugu would later go on to be named Horse of the Year.

A R1 million purchase at the 2009 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale , Igugu became the first filly ever to win the Triple Tiara, and went on to win the J&B Met. To date, she has earned over R6.7 million with the promise of plenty more to come!

From Igugu, to one of the great bargains of the sale, Pierre Jourdan. The latter cost just R60,000 at the 2008 Ready To Run Sale, before embarking on a career which saw him become a beloved Highveld Champion. Pierre Jourdan, to date, has won five feature races and over R4.5 million in prize money.

The list goes on and is proof of a well-established and successful sale that has proven itself over and over again as a great place to buy champions.

Most of last year’s graduates are still just two-years-old, and, yet, there have been a number of very promising performers to emerge.

Rock of Arts (Rock of Gibraltar - Dash On Ruby) was a colt who fetched R850,000. He subsequently made a winning debut to stamp himself a horse to follow for owners Mr and Mrs Chinsammy. He subsequently ran third to the talented Desert Sheik, before taking on G1 company in the Golden Horseshoe.

The following two-year-olds from the 2011 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale also made winning debuts :

Cape Royal (Royal Academy - Dubai’s Fairy), consigned by Summerhill Stud, topped the Sale fetching R1.5 million. He subsequently broke his maiden by over six lengths first time out for Lady Christine Laidlaw, and looks a potential star in the making.

Indaba My Children (Tale of the Cat - Hampton Rover) is one of the more promising babies around, the R600,000 purchase has won twice in five starts and was second in the G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes.

Dylan’s Promise (Dylan Thomas - Madonna), owned by the Fire Racing Trust in partnership with Mr Chetty, has won two of four, with her wins including the Listed Devon Air Stakes. She is a filly to watch for the future.

Lonsome Dove (Trippi - Western Hour), consigned by Klawervlei Stud, made a facile winning debut for champion trainer Mike de Kock, and looks a very smart filly.

Extra Zing (Carpocrates - Linsumi), from the first crop of her sire and consigned by the Middlefield Stud, won a good race on debut recently, beating felow Ready To Run graduate, Negev (Stronghold - Haifaa). Negev, owned by Messrs Comaroff, S Reid, B Parker and M Wilken, subsequently franked the form with a fluent 3.25 length win next time out for trainer Louis Goosen.

The beautifully bred Emaliyami (Rock of Gibraltar - Elusive Kash) stamped herself as one to follow for the future when scoring a facile win at Scottsville recently. Owned by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum, the three-year-old filly was consigned to last year’s sale by Summerhill Sales. With powerful connections, and a world class pedigree, this filly could be anything.

Another smart looking daughter of Rock of Gibraltar to have been sold at the 2011 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale is the Geoff Woodruff-trained, Ilha da Rock (Rock of Gibraltar - Les Ry Leigh). Fourth in the G2 SA Fillies Nursery as a maiden, Ilha da Rock subsequently broke her maiden by nearly four lengths - when sent off a 5-1 ON shot. Owned by Mrs Devachander and Mr Mathen, Ilha da Rock was then rated good enough to take on a top field in the G1 Golden Slipper on Vodacom Durban July day. Consigned by Summerhill Sales, Ilha Da Rock was a R900,000 buy.

With a number of well bred horses as yet unraced, and several youngsters who have placed in their only starts to date, the list of classy performers from the 2011 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale can only continue to grow.

The graduates of the 2011 Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale are eligible to race for an incredible R2.5million in the Sweepstakes Race, the Emperors Palace Ready To Run Cup, on 3rd November which will be the stuff of dreams for some lucky buyers from last year’s sale.
