EMPERORS PALACE READY TO RUN GALLOPS
Summerhill Stud, South Africa
11 October 2013
This young man was an aspirant student at the School of Management Excellence in 2013, having graduated as a rider of winners from one of international racing’s most venerated institutions, the S.A. Jockey’s Academy. An affable lad, he not only passed the course with flying colours, but earned himself an internship at Summerhill for the duration of his practical course, as well as an international scholarship from the Cathsseta, which sees him in the United States next year. You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to know that this boy knows his stuff. Here are the horses he’d “finger” for the forthcoming Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale, if he was putting his own dough down:
Lot 71: Trust The Pink (Mullins Bay x Vanish) Chestnut Filly
There’s a belief on this farm that you don’t even have to look at the products of this family, because they all run. Mind you, as a daughter of “Vanish”, even if you did look, it’s possible you might not see this one, because she’s “flying” in her early work. Mullins Bay topped the second crop sires log last season by earnings per runner and percentage winners, in a vintage stallion crop which included: Trippi, Stronghold, Black Minnaloushe and King Of Kings; that tells us this could be a lethal cocktail.
Lot 79: Gaisce Gold (Kahal x Winning Glory) Bay Colt
Those that missed out when we sold Hear The Drums for R42,000 at the Ready To Run, wouldn’t want to be remembered for making the same mistake twice. Remembering that this one steps up a bit on his illustrious brother’s ancestry (he’s a son of Kahal, as opposed to Gold Press), he’s what insiders call a “stallion strike”, and while it’s taken a lifetime for any horse to win 35 races in this country (as Hear The Drums did), who knows where the lightning will strike next?
