The team we work with never fails to astound us, and that’s evident in the fact that these columns are the most read in the thoroughbred breeding world, according to the Alexa ratings.
Their latest brainwave comes from a combination of our broodmare and foal management team, our resident photographer and our horse admin manager, who’ve been running the “name game” on our Facebook page for the past year and a bit. South Africa is one of the few countries in the world which calls for the naming of progeny by the breeders of horses, as opposed to the owners; a jealously guarded concession which enables us to label our products as appropriately as our imaginations will allow. Those that have done it though, will tell you how confoundingly difficult it is to find a name that hasn’t already been taken up, (or which hasn’t been reserved in perpetuity, in the case of famous horses of the past), so casting our net as wide as we can and inviting the participation of our readers, is a wonderful way of arriving at novel contributions.

Some of us are technologically challenged, and it was the ever-alert Sporting Post correspondent, Robyn Louw, that drew our attention to the opportunity to broaden the participation of our readers, by posting this article.
