TATTERSALLS OCTOBER YEARLING SALE
Book 1

Who said the Eurozone was in trouble? Who said America’s credit rating had been downgraded? Whoever did, was obviously not at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, nor was he at the opening session Wednesday of Tattersall’s English equivalent. In a day dominated by the progeny of the world’s best stallion, Galileo, the average was up 48%, and the median 50% (at a $100,000), which reinforces the view we’ve expressed before, that there is a point below which horsemen with an appreciation for the intrinsic value of quality product, will not sink.

In a repeat of the opening day at Keeneland, the Irish of Coolmore took a greater share of the spoils than Sheikh Mohammed’s team from Dubai, and encouragingly, the second top price (700,000 guineas) was for an Oasis Dream colt who shares a granddam with our own Mullins Bay. Interestingly, at a meeting of the consignors to this years Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale on Wednesday evening, several revealed to us what we already know : That the first crop of Mullins Bays can run.
