11 STAKES WINNERS THIS YEAR FOR DANSILI
Tara Madgwick (Australia) - Juddmonte Farms owned sire Dansili has been headline material in recent months through the deeds of his record breaking son Harbinger and again this week with the Group Two Goodwood Cup hero, Illustrious Blue, prompting many Australian yearling buyers to look back and wonder whether they have missed something when inspecting his 10 youngsters offered at Southern Hemisphere sales this year.
According to the Australian Studbook there were 13 live foals by Dansili born in Australia in 2008 and of those, 10 went to the yearling sales. They sold at an average price of $92,813, the highest priced a colt at $240,000.
A Group Two winning son of Danehill, Dansili has done the hard yards and built his own reputation as a sire, starting his career at a modest fee of 8,000 pounds before the meteoric rise that now sees him stand at Banstead Manor at a fee of 65,000 pounds.
It was not until 2007, that Dansili stepped up to a fee of 30,000 pounds, so all of his racing offspring to date barring the two year-olds were conceived off low fees from modest mares.
That being the case, you would have to think he is a horse on an upswing, a scary prospect for his rivals when you consider he has had 11 stakes-winners this year, and his success is not confined to Europe either.
In the US, his five year-old daughter Proviso claimed a Group One hat-trick on 31 July when she won the Diana Stakes at Saratoga.
Like the best sons of Danehill in Australia, Dansili gets two-year-olds, classic three-year-olds, stayers and sprinters, so if you were lucky enough to have bought one of his stock at our sales this year, you’ve done well.
