“TIMING IS EVERYTHING”
Fidelis’ four and a quarter length romp in the opening juvenile event at Scottsville on Wednesday, was prophetic. Here we are, on the eve of the greatest football extravaganza on earth, and a son of a horse named for the world’s greatest footballer of his era, Solskjaer, pops up looking like he could be anything.
Charles Laird has always spoken lyrically of Fidelis, and was not dispirited when he was second to one of his own charges at his first racecourse appearances. Quoting Andrew Fortune, who had the mount on the day, we said that he could’ve matched the winner if the horse hadn’t been quite as inexperienced, and if he’d been a little harder on him.
Anton Marcus had the ride on Wednesday, and he hardly had to flinch in the saddle to get this guy home, as he strode away majestically, extending by more than four. Charles tell us his next mission is a Group 3 next Saturday, and if he comes through that the way he expects him to, he’ll be in the line-up for the Golden Horseshoe Gr.1 on the 3rd July.
The great thing about this game is that we can all dream, every day, and that there’s always the prospect of making new history.
