ALL QUALITY, ALL THE TIME

Edward Evans is one of America’s most successful private owner/breeders. His record speaks for itself, numbering Quality Road, Casanova Move, and Night Light among his more impressive race achievers.

On Saturday, in the first major Grade One of the new American season, his Quality Road (by Smarty Jones sire, Elusive Quality) made it six victories from just nine starts (he was twice second and once third in his other three) in the time-honoured Donn Handicap (Gr.1) at Gulfstream Park.

The Thoroughbred Daily News reported: “He’s certainly the master of this domain. Bet down to 2/5, Quality Road had only the clock as his rival in the stretch, and crossed the wire in 1 minute 47 secs in the nine furlongs, in the process bettering his own mark which he set in his Florida Derby (Gr.1) win last March. There was only one way jockey John Velazquez could describe the victory “Watching the replay it looked awesome: it felt awesome”, said the reinsman.

It will be a while before fans get to see Quality Road again. His programme ahead involves a break, then he will be pointed at the famous Met Mile, Saratoga and the Breeders Cup Classic in July.

Already among America’s leading stallions, Elusive Quality has totted up an impressive record of exceptional performers’ including World Champion Raven’s Pass, Smarty Jones, Gimmeawink and Maryfield.

Sales-watchers will be pleased to know our “quality” offering at the Emperors Palace National Sales at the end of April, includes a good looking son of Elusive Quality.

I was surprised to read on the added info about Elusive Quality that he was only a Group 3 winner & Group 2 placed. Shows there's hope for all of us.
