WHAT A WAY TO END THE FOALING SEASON

“LAST FOAL OF THE SEASON BY KAHAL OUT OF GREAT ATTRACTION”

We had our last mare foal down here at Summerhill this past week; a bay colt by Kahal out of the Northern Guest mare, Great Attraction. This mare has already produced multiple Group 1 placed Amphitheatre – another of Summerhill’s fairy tale stories.

The season has tested our patience and skills from the beginning but with the dedication and love for the game our staff pulled us through these nerve racking few months of the year. With foaling down 244 mares you are always bound to learn a thing or two. In the commercial breeding world everyone always seems to want more colts than fillies, as they have a better market value and every year we get quite a few more fillies. This year has been our closest countdown yet with 121 colts and 123 fillies, I don’t think we could have asked for a better result.

We were very fortunate to have Erin McCready from the USA assisting the Foal Team and Ricardo Christian, a fellow South African, assisting on the Mare and Breeding division, this year. They have both been a tremendous help and we couldn’t have done it with out them.
