You might have expected it, but even so, fifteen out of sixteen of the entries in any field for R1,5 million, is an astonishing number, no matter how you judge it. That’s the story for Saturday’s big race, insofar as graduates from last year’s Summerhill Ready To Run draft, are concerned.

Four of them are by Kahal, whose already supplied a winner of the event, two by Muhtafal (likewise, sire of a previous winner), and there are three each by the late lamented Labeeb, and the surprise package of this year, Malhub, who is certainly an expanding influence with his second crop.

While Labeeb is no longer around, the other three have healthy representations in Sunday’s sale.
