SUMMERHILL GALLOPS
16 OCTOBER 2009
The one thing you don’t want at a Ready To Run gallops session, is “Weather”. But this is the season, so all you can do is pray.
The forecast for Friday is for thundershowers, which generally means towards evening where we come from, but we’re not leaving it to chance.
Mercifully, the diversity of our devoted attendees points to the collective possibility that we can look to Christians, Muslims, Hindus, the Tamil’s, Lord Shiva, the Torah, the Bible, and the Koran, as well as to the “Amahlozi“ or ancestral spirits, for protection.
And then we have a few lost souls, who survive despite a lack of devotion, and who can probably share a few secrets with us as well.
Otherwise, we’ll just rely on our “home-ground” intuitions, which tell us the rain comes late in the day and provided we keep the show rolling, we’ll get the job done.
Since the Emperors Palace Ready To Run sale has emerged from a “nice-to-have“ to a “have-to-have“, attendances at the gallops have swelled by the year, and we’re expecting a record turnout by the time the gates close at 11.30am.

Just a quick one to say that I have looked heavenwards 590 times today. And, I really do believe that the Weather Gods have called it quits. They had a big meeting today and decided that they had been cruel to the Summerhill Team for too long. The boss Weather God was heard to say, "Come on guys. Can't we come up with something other than an Arctic freeze AND pelting rain for Mick's big day? They all scratched their heads and moved clouds around argued about where they were going to put the awful weather. And, presto, it's NOT going to be where you are!!!
So have a splendid day and may it be a great success. Sorry that Avi and I won't be there to enjoy the breeze ups, the food, the wine AND the sun!
With love,
Mary C
I fear we'll need to get shifting - they've only provided a respite!
We'll miss you guys.
Warmest, as always.
