PHUNYUKA
EMERALD CUP 2009
Phunyuka means to “get away” in Zulu. And this fellow’s massive win in the R600 000 Emerald Cup Saturday was just that. But it was also a triumph for the little guys, a bit like David and Goliath.
A regular owner, a regular trainer, and if he weren’t 54, a regular jockey. With a R90 000 Ready To Run purchase, running down the giants of the sand.
Yet these are not your “regular” team. What they are, are your normal guys who do things abnormally well. Like knowing a good thing when they see it, and giving it their very best shot.
In a way, there are parallels with the way we do things at Summerhill. The best of land, the best of people and the best way to raise a racehorse known to man. Where there’s no such thing as a “minor” detail.
We suppose that’s what makes Summerhill Summerhill.
