DRIFT ICE : South Africa's Dominance Continues

nad al sheba The remarkable run of South African horses at the Dubai Carnival continued this weekend with yet another victory in the only Stakes event carded.

1st DRIFT ICE (SAF), 126, g, 6, Western Winter—Donya (SAf) (MGSW-SAf), by Elliodor (Fr) . O-Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi; B-Lammerskraal Stud (SAF); T-Mike de Kock; J-K Shea;

3rd Borehan (GB) , 126, g, 5, Agnes World—Crime Ofthecentury (GB), by Pharly (Fr).
Margins: 1/4, NS, 1/4.

Drift Ice, who triumphed in a 1600-meter Carnival handicap at Nad Al Sheba on Valentine’s Day, failed to land a blow in his latest, finishing 13th behind Elusive Warning in the G3 Burj Nahaar March 6 over the same track and trip. The bay raced in the rear here, moved into contention at the half-way mark and hit the front late for his first stakes success.

“They went very quickly, which has helped as his stamina was always going to be the key to his chances,” remarked winning rider Kevin Shea. “He is a real tough horse and has been a great servant.”

Drift Ice’s six-year-old full brother Kayak (SAf) sold for Dhs460,000.
