Act One's Daughter Lands Big Race Spoils

Dancer's DaughterDancer’s Daughter (Gold Circle)British-bred Dancer’s Daughter produced a top-class performance to land the prestigious Gr.1 Paddock Stakes at Kenilworth in on the weekend. The grey four-year-old daughter of Shadwell Stud-based Act One, skipped clear of her rivals to win the fillies and mares’ race by three lengths from the locally-bred pair Carry On Katie (Western Winter) and Captain’s Lover (Captain Al).

Bred at Catridge Farm Stud by Mrs Diana Joly, Dancer’s Daughter was bought by Blandford Bloodstock for 52,000gns at Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Part One. A half-sister to the Gr.3 Somerville Tattersall Stakes winner Diktatorial, she is not the first of her family to have made an impact in South Africa. Her second dam’s half sister Icona (Green Dancer) was the Champion Stayer in South Africa in 1991, winning the Gr.1 Natal Newspapers Gold Cup, the country’s premier staying race.

Icona was a gelding, much to my regret because I first took a small share in the hope that he might make a stallion. But he haemo-concentrated;hence the gelding. But the purpose of this comment is to establish that he couldn't have been anyone's half-sister.

Hey!!!!! Icona is still most upset at being described as some mare's half-sister. I mean, not even a full-sister.Please help the old man's self-respect by correcting the error. After all, he & I both know you didn't do it on purpose, but every self-respecting Gold Cup winner has his pride;and even though, through no fault of his own, he was deprived of his stallion potential, that is no reason to call him a girl.
