Quiet but plenty of connections...

It’s been a quiet week’s racing for us here on the farm, but it is amazing how many little connections one can find if you look hard enough.

Jewel Of JwanengJewel Of Jwaneng (Gold Circle)Yesterday at Clairwood Noble Park by Muhtafal, out of Queen of Savannah, belonging to our loyal client and long-time friend Steve Sturlese, made her debut in the R65 K Maiden Juvenile Plate for 2 year old Fillies over 1000m. Jumping smartly she showed good pace and was in the lead by the 400m mark. However, she was overtaken at the 200m mark by another debutant, Cool Shadow, who went on to win easily going away. Interestingly Cool Shadow is out of a daughter of one of our former resident stallions Braashee.

Talking of other connections in the FM 81 Handicap over 1600m, Jewel Of Jwaneng put up an impressive showing. Well back in the field for most of the race she steadily moved up to hit the front at 200m out, and kept on to win from a fast finishing Flight Queen. She is a daughter of the late celebrated Summerhill stallion Rambo Dancer, who is more famous since his untimely death in 2004, think of Pix Six, 2007 Gomma Gomma winner, and you will get the picture.

In the last race of the day, I Said Hey ran a brilliant race under champion jockey Bernard Fayd’Herbe. Hitting the ground running and keeping up a good pace, I Said Hey hit the front with 200m to spare and won easily. Marilyn, a 2005 Ready To Run graduate held on for second place. Her breeders are our friends, Bruce & Nadine Le Roux of Spring Valley Stud and her trainer is Bennet Bulana.

I'm trying to contact Nadine le Roux. We were at school together, and I'm arranging our 25th reunion this year. I'd really appreciate it if you could ask her to contact me.

Many thanks.
