HEAR THE DRUMS: Three individual titles makes him a natural for Horse of the Year

Hear The Drums (Wally Strydom)The East Cape Racing awards took place this last weekend, and Summerhill was once again honoured with a Horse of The Year (three of the last four in that jurisdiction) when Hear The Drums (a R45 000 Ready To Run graduate) took the Sprinter of The Year, the Older Horse of The Year and, almost naturally, the Horse of The Year title. This is a horse that won 13 races as a three or four year old, (having started his career somewhat late) and has carried imposts well in excess of 60 kgs to victory in his last few starts.

Peter Fabricius

Nobody deserves the accolade more than Peter Fabricius, who has really put his head down on a number of Ready To Run graduates over the years, and his trainer, Des McLachlan, an outstanding horseman in his own right.
