Danehill sons get close to the Century

Danehill has a quartet of his sons shooting for 100 individual winners in Australia this season over the next two weeks. Already Danehill has Lion Hunter (128) and Flying Spur (124) having topped the century mark, with Redoute’s Choice (98) and Catbird (91) trying to join them over the next fortnight. The mark is probably just out of reach for Danehill Dancer and Catbird, but the other duo are within sight of reaching the figure for the first time, with only four crops of racing age each.

Flying Spur has been the leading sire of individual winners for the past two seasons, but is likely to be beaten by the ill-fated Lion Hunter this year.

The other sires to have gone past the century this season are Sequalo (101), Strategic (110) and Encosta De Lago (119), who was the leading sire by individual winners three seasons ago.
