Filly makes History in the Belmont

For the first time in 102 years, a filly got home in the Belmont Stakes (Gr1) in the United States on Saturday. Rags to Riches got in the dying strides to touch off Preakness hero Curlin, etching her name into the history books.

Her victory recalls the spectacular achievements of the late Summerhill resident stallion Coastal, whose defeat 25 years ago on Saturday denied one of history’s greatest racehorses, Spectacular Bid his moment of Triple Crown glory.
