Fred Crabbia's Veiled Essence stakes a big claim for the July

Fred CrabbiaThe weekend witnessed a remarkable performance from last season’s Dubai Racing Club Oaks (Gr 2) heroine, Veiled Essence, when she shattered the class record in an Advanced Pate against Summer Cup (Gr 1) ace, Malteme.

Racing over a distance long short of her best, this daughter of Muhtafal blistered from the back of the field and won by an extending 1,75 lengths.

Her ranking among the Vodacom July (Gr1) entries rose from 36 to 21 in the process and with final scratchings still to come, in a 20 horse field, and with 52 kg to shoulder, she looks a huge runner in what the media have dubbed Africa’s Greatest Sporting event.
