The long awaited arrival of one of the most exciting stallion prospects to set foot on South African shores, Mullins Bay, dawned at last on Sunday. He will be touching down together with other horses under the enterprising eye of Brian Roux of BBR Bloodstock, and will be quarantining in Cape Town. It’s not the end of his racing road yet though, as he’ll be joining Mike de Kock’s yard after an exceptionally well-earned rest back at Summerhill, which will commence mid way through December and probably end with his re-entering training in the middle to the end of January.

Beautifully bred, spectacularly proportioned and highly performed, this close-to R10 million yearling purchase will be one of Summerhill’s stallion lynchpins come next season, though we’re hopeful he’ll convalesce sufficiently well to get over the nagging joint injury which has plagued him for most of his career, and give us a final swansong in the closing months of the current racing season. His targets will probably include a tilt at the Gold Challenge (Grade One) over 1600 m, followed by the Vodacom Durban July (Grade One) over 2200 m at Greyville on the first Saturday of July.
