Thrilling Derby Duel

Pick Six missed catching Jay Peg by the narrowest of margins in Saturday’s Gr 1 Investec Cape Derby over 2000m at Kenilworth.

With Jay Peg finding the lead at the 200m mark, Pick Six wore him down with every stride but the post came that millimetre too soon - the official margin just 0.05 length. It was only the fifth start for the son of Rambo Dancer (and his first around a left hand bend) so his future certainly looks bright.

Meanwhile, last season’s Oaks winner Veiled Essence (Muhtafal) added a Gr 1 placing to her resume when she finished third to Champion filly Sun Classique in the Gr 1 Fancourt Majorca Stakes.
