Slew the Red in the news

slew the redFrom The European Bloodstock News 26 January 2007

Multiple Group winner Slew The Red has the honour of being the first son of outstanding Roberto stallion Red Ransom to take up stud duties in South Africa.

On the racetrack, he proved as tough as he was versatile.

Under the tutelage of Andre Fabre, Slew The Red was placed in all four starts at two and progressed to win four Stakes races in France at three and four, including the Gr.3 La Coupe at Longchamp and the Gr.3 Prix Gontaut-Biron at Deauville. In addition, he was second in the Gr.2 Prix du Conseil de Paris and third in the Gr.2 Prix Foy.

Sent to Neil Drysdale at five, Slew The Red won or was placed in his three American starts, which included a third
in the Gr.2 Dixie Handicap at Pimlico. Drysdale described him as “everything a breeder could wish for; strength,
depth and importantly, a real ability to quicken.”

Slew The Red’s dam, the Seattle Slew mare Great Lady Slew, is a daughter of Great Lady Sharon, an Alydar half-sister to the magnificent filly Lady’s Secret, America’s Horse of the Year in 1986.

Slew The Red’s first crop clearly inherited his muscular good looks and at the sales, averaged ten times his fee.

Retired to Summerhill Stud in 2003, he now stands at Invermooi Stud in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.
